Hello Everyone,
The duty of the Four Seasons Farm Christmas letter has been granted to the farms newest residents: Bert & Ernie. We are Holstein calves that have been hired as milk consumption units (MCU’s) for the farm. We stayed at the farm for about 2-3 months, and then a new Bert and Ernie came along. All in all, there were 8 MCU’s this year.
The other residents of the farm tell us that “the help” went to Cozumel, Mexico this year. We can’t really understand why they would want to leave the paradise of MN in January, but when they came back they were a lot more relaxed. We hear that they are dreaming about going back someday.
You might notice that you received a handmade card this year. Laura has become a Stampin’ Up demonstrator and is loving her new adventure. She uses card making as a diversion from work and us. (As if we and all the other animals could cause any stress.) She even has her own website: www.laurakieser.stampinup.net/. Check it out, and let her know what you think.
We had a very successful kidding seasons this year. There were a total of 18 kids born this year. Another technology note: the farm has started a web blog. This will be an easier way to incorporate photos, alerts and details about all the new babies arriving at the farm and any other fun news. It really would have been nice to have this when we arrived! (They didn’t have a party for us or anything.) The blog can be found at: http://fsfgoats.blogspot.com/.
The help did seem to find time this year to do a lot of fun activities. They went to a show called Stomp!, a St. Paul Saints game, a Mississippi River dinner cruise, a Rascal Flatts concert, a wedding where Chris was the best man, and canoed the MN River. Of course, all of this was in addition to a variety of goat shows throughout the summer.
Perhaps the biggest highlight for “the help” was a trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil in November. They were able to go as part of a group of agriculture Extension Educators with the University of MN. Their agenda was action packed and they learned a lot about the sugar, ethanol, citrus, and agriculture industries in Brazil and how that effects the US and world economy.
Well, that about wraps up 2008 at Four Seasons Farm. We need to get back to eating. The help told us to tell you they wish you a warm and happy holiday season and best wishes for the coming New Year.
“MOO-Y CHRISTMAS!”
Bert & Ernie
